What is JoyArt?

JoyArt itself is an art celebration and competition with a focus on games and character art. We invite students from campuses across New England to submit artwork for a variety of categories including: Character Concept Art, 2D & 3D Environmental Concept Art, 2D Animation, and more. The winner of each category receives a monetary prize along with a certificate. There are then 2 rounds of judging to decide on the finalists whose art will be showcased at Joyart. To judge for this event we bring in industry professionals from places such as: Warner Brother Games, Demiurge, Meta, etc. The actual event itself looks much like an art gallery with 2D art being professionally printed and placed on stands and 3D art and animation being played on tv’s and monitors. There are also tables and catering for the event so that event goers, finalists, and judges all have an opportunity to meet and talk with one another. During the event we also host portfolio review sessions in which event goers have the opportunity to have the judges review their professional portfolios.

Why do JoyArt?

JoyArt is an event that provides students with opportunities to not only meet real industry professionals, but also to help connect students with similar interests with one another. The event has had participants from over 10 different universities apart from WPI such as Clark, North Eastern, and Rhode Island School of Design to name a few. The event has led to actual job offers from attending professionals, not just for the artists but for other attending students as well. JoyArt has gained the attention of New England game and art community in general and has fostered connections
